First, let's talk about some safety items. Whenever you work with wood finishes, it's important to have a well ventilated area. You want to keep the dust off of your project, and you don't want to breathe in any particles in the air that come off the furniture piece.

Always use a respirator and safety glasses when removing finish, and make sure you have enough fresh air and air flow.

The process of removing the finish is really easy. All you need to do is go from the easiest thing to the hardest thing. By the easiest, I mean we're going to start out wherever the finish looks weakest. Look for flaky paint, stripping finish, and other signs of wear and tear. Wearing your safety glasses and respirator, take a wire brush, and scrape off anything you can with it. Don't worry about getting everything at this point, just get off the easy stuff.

Being able to make the correct size hole in a piece of wood is necessary for attaching two pieces together with screws, bolts, or nails. When using nails in a pre-drilled hole, I often dip the nail in Epoxy before slipping it into the hole. This anchors the nail so it doesn't slip out again.

-- Scroll Saw This saw has limited uses but it's very handy for making small cuts, circular cuts, cutting name plates, etc. The blade brakes easily so you have to go slow and be gentle with the turns that you make. Whilst I say this is the final step of any woodworking project, in reality we need to break it down into two parts. First up is the sanding, by which I mean the process of smoothing the wood to remove any blemishes or rough edges. Remember that an minor blemish or imperfection in your wood will be magnified when you complete the sanding and finishing process by applying you wax, polish or varnish.

There are a number of different ways to sand and smooth your wood. The main three methods you can use are;

1. Sandpaper - Nine times out of ten this will be the approach you take to smooth your wood. Sandpaper is graded based on the size of the grains on the paper. The higher the number the smaller the grains and the finer the finish you will achieve. Be sure to use the right grade of paper for the job you are tackling. In most cases you will start with a coarse grade to clean up the worst marks, before moving on to a finer grade.

2. Wire wool - Wire wool, sometimes called steel wool, can be used when you need a finer finish than can be achieved with even the finest sandpaper. With certain types of oily wood wire wool is all you need to finish your wood, as it will leave the surface so smooth that there will be no need for any further varnish or polish.

3. Cabinet scraper - This tool is less well known, but can be a useful addition to the woodworker's tool box. Standard cabinet scrapers are rectangular piece of flexible tempered steel. They are used, as their name implies, at the beginning of the finishing process to scrape along the surfaces of your piece of furniture to remove blemishes or small tears in the wood. They also come in curved shapes that are useful for finishing curved surfaces such as mouldings.

Once you have sanded and smoothed your wood surfaces, the next step in making your wood look wonderful is to apply your finish. The main thing to be aware of when you are selecting your finish is that it will change the look of your wood, and you might not be able to assess the scale of that change by looking at the tin. Hence it is suggested that you should try out the varnish, wax or polish that you intend to use on a piece of waste wood before you proceed. If necessary try two or three different colours to be sure that you get the best look.

They are looking for articles and will provide a link to your site. Be aware that if someone uses a link you've provided on your site, they will go away from your site, and may never return!

Membership is another way to create content on the site. This is where your site provides a space where people can send in their views, opinions and write articles themselves, which are then available for others to read and reply to.

Copy writing
In sales one of the most important things is to be able to sum up the unique aspects of your product in a way that excites others. Get the RIGHT message over quickly.

A good example of this is known as the Elevator Pitch, where you have to get your message over in the time span of an elevator ride, thirty seconds to two minutes.

The headline on a web page should be your Pitch - to get the customer to want more and read on.

Pointers to a good pitch:-
1. Match your message to your audience.
2. Solve a problem. Solve the buyer's need or problem.
3. Be clear. Test it on people first and see if they understand.
4. Be brief and get to the point. People's attention span is short.
5. Be intriguing if you can. People are always curious.

There are basically three types of website:-

Squeeze page which is a single web page used usually for one product.
It can be expanded later by adding more pages.

Micro site is a website with multiple pages containing information usually about one product. Pages might be photographs, plans, detailed specifications, uses, references, contact, testimonials, and related articles.

Website. These are usually extensive and used for on-line shopping stores with multiple products.
The Micro site is probably the one to go for.

Domain name
The domain name or URL (Uniform Resource Locator) is the address of a website on the World Wide Web. There are many sites where you can go and search for the name you want, all costing about the same. It is usually easier to do this on the site of whoever you decide to use as host for your site.

Hosting site
This is where your site is located and usually they have various plans depending on the type and size of the site you want. They charge for the hosting and it's worth shopping around. Most have domain name search and purchase facilities.

DIY or get a web designer
There are lots of web designers on-line and again you need to shop around, and ask questions and get prices.
There are also lots of sites online where you can design your own site from a choice of layouts. These are very easy - you don't need to know any computer code - just type in the copy you want in the pre-set areas. Add-ins like photos and video is automatic.

Most of the hosting services provide this service for free if you use them. Again, it's easier all in one place.

Getting paid
